Changes due to the EU Copyright Directive

On June 7th, 2021, the EU Copyright Directive has come into effect. Basically, it makes me as the site owner liable for any copyright infringement, unless I implement a way to filter every upload for copyrighted content. Since there is no way for any small organization to know who owns the copyrights to uploaded photos, let alone track them down and gain approval for each individual upload, I have no choice but to block all access to the photos from the EU countries. Update: 2022-06-04 Access to photos has been blocked to EU visitors for over a year, and so far I've yet to come up with a solution to allow displaying all photos on the site to EU users. That being said, I may have an idea to enable *some* of the photos.
As part of the new UI improvements to the site, I'm going to build a section dedicated to EU users. Photos in that section would be embedded from their original platform (be it Twitter, Instagram, Getty, etc..) Since the photos will not be hosted on the site itself and will contain captions and links to the original source, I believe this solution, while not perfect, is perfectly legal. It will take some work to populate all those galleries, but that's what I've come up with. What do you think? Feel free to let me know via the site's "contact us" section. Cheers! Eli
